The Royal Palace of Alfheim

Seat of the Royal Family of Alfheim, the city encompassing the palace is considered to be the greatest economical knot of the entire realm.

Trapped between the sea - on one side - and a mountainous chain on the other, the city is nearly impossible to siege from land and an incredibly hard-to-reach target even from the sea, as it boasts the strongest naval force of all nine realms.

Evil spirit

The souls of sinners who refuse to repent, or enter Hel's good graces, are forever tormented in the five levels of Helheim below Ante-Hell.

Eventually, after centuries of constant punishment, they lose all semblance of their former selves and become ethereal beings, bent only on hatred and harming anyone they see; in a way, they become animals driven not by intelligence, but by instinct.

However, they may possess a variety of abilities which make them far more dangerous than their appearance would suggest.

Guiding spirit

The souls of the dead who reside in Hel's abode, in Ante-Hell, are spared the terrible fate of sinners. Instead they are given lodgings in Hel's home and dwell there as her subjects.

Though most of them are regular people, many are ancient warriors which Hel uses as guardians and soldiers; although some of them - such as Odysseus - have been considered worthy of becoming her counselors.

More often than not, they are tasked with finding any living being or spirit that may for any reason become lost in Helheim, and guide them to her abode.
